Los Angeles-based photographer Patrick Simpson has created a new photo series documenting the lives of prisoners at the Angola Prison in Louisiana. At Angola Prison in Louisiana, model inmates or ‘trustees’ are encouraged to participate in hobby craft as a part of their rehabilitation. Most prisoners are serving the rest of their life here.

Michel Varisco is a New Orleans artist who uses photography and site specific installation to explore themes of loss and regeneration. Her current project Shifting “is a series that observes the dynamic movement of our lands over the course of a short but powerful geologic timeline and explores the consequences of human altercations to those lands and waters.” She is currently in the final three days of her fundraiser to help pay for the exhibit book and only has 10% more to go to reach her goal. One year after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon, Berlin-based photographer Constanze Flamme, with her project Troubled Water, sought out evidence of the aftermath of the oil spill in the coastal region of Louisiana- investigating perspective within the international media, the long term impacts on regional life, governmental and organizational commitments and overall uncertainty.
Acadiana folklorist/filmmaker and Breaux Bridge native, Conni Castille’s new documentary, T-Galop: A Louisiana Horse Story, traces the history of equine culture in Louisiana from colonial times through the modern era, emphasizing the culture’s deep roots within the Cajun and Creole communities.
The film documents such aspects of equine culture as bush tracks, zydeco cowboys and the Mardi Gras courir.
One of the finest architectural photographers in America, Robert W. Tebbs produced the first photographic survey of Louisiana’s plantations in 1926. These images are now housed at the Louisiana State Museum: Presbytere and are on display through September 2012.
