The Oxford American crew is venturing out of Arkansas and down the Mississippi to bring not one, but two electric events to the Crescent City on the night of Thursday, March 29th. Please join OA at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, 6-8 pm, with a party celebrating the success of the Oxford American’s new “Visual South” issue as part of the Ogden After Hours featuring Aurora Nealand. Pop over to the Circle bar, 8-11pm, to celebrate the talent of L. Kasimu Harris, writer and photographer of OA’s new online column Parish Chic; tunes by DJ Kristen of the Mod Dance Party.
Avant Garden Winter Commencement set for December 17th. We also welcome Pecha Kucha Night following the day event.
Avant Garden is a semi-annual curated arts market hosted by Constance, a local arts organization.
Featuring 60 artists, designers, makers and taste-makers from the New Orleans community, Avant Garden’s goal is to provide an alternative to the usual local Arts Markets by a process of individually inviting vendors that represent emerging talent in the city, enriching our cultural economy as a whole.
Pecha Kucha Night, is a place for young artists and thinkers to meet and show their work in public.
Each of the 10 presenters are allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds - giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to share ideas. It’s an informal night out with DJs, visual treats, and a chance to connect with ideas and creatives in our disparate community.
